Disney just dropped the news we’ve all been waiting for—Freakier Friday, the much-anticipated sequel to the 2003 classic Freaky Friday, is hitting theaters on August 8, 2025. And yes, the iconic duo, Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, are officially back as Anna and Tess Coleman!
This new flick picks up years after the original body-swap chaos, but this time, there’s a twist. Anna now has her own daughter and a soon-to-be stepdaughter, which means the magic could strike again, with even more family drama to juggle. As they try to blend their families, Tess and Anna might just find themselves in another hilarious body-swapping situation.
Disney made the announcement on October 11, 2024, sharing a throwback photo of Lohan and Curtis in character, recreating that unforgettable scene when they first realized they’d swapped bodies. Needless to say, fans are losing it over the nostalgia.
Freakier Friday was first reported in the works back in May 2023, with production kicking off in June 2024. Nisha Ganatra is directing, and the script is penned by Jordan Weiss. Along with Lohan and Curtis, we’ll see some familiar faces returning—Mark Harmon is back as Tess’s husband Ryan, Chad Michael Murray reprises his role as Anna’s love interest Jake, and we’ll also see Christina Vidal Mitchell, Haley Hudson, Stephen Tobolowsky, Rosalind Chao, and Lucille Soong from the original cast.
On top of that, we’ve got some fresh faces joining the fun, including Julia Butters, Sophia Hammons, Manny Jacinto, and Maitreyi Ramakrishnan. Though details about their roles are under wraps, rumors suggest Butters and Jacinto will play Anna’s daughter and her love interest.
The new movie promises to dive into the ups and downs of blended families while bringing back the same humor and heart that made the first one a hit. Fans of the original can expect to see their favorite characters again, but with some new twists to keep things interesting.
Jamie Lee Curtis is pumped about the sequel, teasing that the filming experience was a blast and reassuring fans that they’ll love what’s coming. With the mix of OG stars and new faces, Freakier Friday is shaping up to be a fresh yet nostalgic trip back to one of Disney’s beloved classics.
Mark your calendars for August 8, 2025—this is one sequel you won’t want to miss!
