Michelle Yeoh: From Oscar Glory to Presidential Honor!

Michelle Yeoh, 61, Oscar-winning actress, got the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Joe Biden. This happened on Friday (May 3) at the White House in Washington, DC.

President Biden said during the ceremony, “Michelle Yeoh has broken stereotypes and glass ceilings for decades, both on and off the screen, enriching American culture. Her roles go beyond gender, cultures, and languages.”

He added, “She has worked in martial arts, romantic comedies, and science fiction, showing us what we all share. As the first Asian actor to win an Oscar as Best Actress, she connects cultures not just to entertain, but also to inspire and open hearts. That’s what she continues to do. Congratulations.”

The Presidential Medal of Freedom, the nation’s highest civilian honor, was also given to Olympic swimmer Katie Ledecky, Rep. Nancy Pelosi, and former Vice President Al Gore.
